The M.Ed. program is designed for licensed teachers seeking to expand professional knowledge and skills in curriculum and instruction.

This program has been designed to prepare candidates for the ever-changing landscape of public education. We emphasize development of evidence-based practices in teaching literacy, current standards of learning focused on the MTSS model, and 21st century skills.

National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Certification

In addition to earning the M.Ed. in elementary education, candidates may choose to work toward the revised National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) certification. NBPTS certification results in a 12% pay increase for North Carolina teachers. The Mars Hill M.Ed. program prepares students to successfully navigate and attain this certification.
