Mars Hill University is a private, four-year liberal arts institution located in the mountains of western North Carolina. Founded in 1856 by Baptist families of the region, it is the oldest institution of higher learning in western North Carolina on its original site.
Mars Hill University is located in one of the most beautiful regions of the Eastern United States, the mountains of Western North Carolina. The town, which derives its name from the university, has a population of about 2,200. It is approximately 20 minutes north of Asheville, NC and approximately 45 minutes southwest of Johnson City, TN.
The MHU Conferences and Events Office is available to help coordinate use of the campus facilities, including dorms, meeting areas, auditorium, athletic amenities, and more by external groups. Whether you are a non-profit organization, corporation, church, athletic organization, or other, our experienced staff can help you plan and host your workshops, camps, conferences, concerts, meetings, and other programs on the Mars Hill University campus during the summer months.
As of the official census date (October 1st), the 2016-17 MHU student body included 1379 students; 1163 are Traditional, 193 are AGS undergrads, 4 are AGS graduate students, and 19 are ISEP/dual enrolled.
