Kinesiology

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Students graduating with a degree in kinesiology will complete a rigorous curriculum that is dedicated to the scientific study of human movement and physical activity as it relates to exercise, sport, health, and wellness. The program integrates principles from various scientific disciplines to provide students with a holistic and evidence-based approach to kinesiology.

The four-year Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in kinesiology for undergraduate students includes the option to pursue a specialized concentration in exercise science or coaching. Students engage in coursework including anatomy, kinesiology, exercise physiology, motor learning, exercise prescription, and research methods.

The exercise science concentration provides students with foundational knowledge of the body’s response to exercise, including courses in anatomy and physiology, nutrition, and exercise and health behavior. The program focuses on applying knowledge and skills related to significant theories, principles, and practice within an exercise science setting.

The coaching concentration is designed for students who want to pursue a career in coaching sports at various levels, from youth to professional. This concentration focuses on the theory, practice, and skills necessary to be an effective coach and leader in the sports field. Courses include coaching theory, techniques and strategies, sport psychology, and sports marketing.

INTERNSHIPS

Beyond content and theoretical knowledge in the classroom, our program emphasizes experiential learning and practical application. Students have the opportunity to apply the scientific principles in real-world settings through hands-on projects and laboratory experiences, fieldwork, and internships. Some of the internship settings include fitness and tranining centers; physical therapy clinics; YMCAs; youth camps; amateur and professional sport teams; and a variety of other exercise, wellness, and sport based organizations.
