English majors at Mars Hill University follow a rigorous course of study in literature and composition leading to the Bachelor of Arts degree. Majors who complete additional coursework may pursue secondary school licensure. Students in other disciplines may choose to minor in English.

In addition, the English program is responsible for the first-year composition “Connector” component of the university’s Liberal Arts in Action general education curriculum. Most new students at Mars Hill enroll in a two-semester sequence of writing courses to prepare them for the essay assignments that await in future courses.
