Profile of 2021-22 Student Body
As of the official census date (Sept, 9, 2021), the 2021-22 MHU student body included 1073 students; 947 are traditional students, 78 are AGS undergraduate students, and 47 are graduate students
The Fall 2021 Traditional Student Body:
- Includes 593 continuing students, 299 new students, 38 transfer students, and 17 students returning after non-enrollment
- Includes 489 men (51.6%) and 458 (48.4%) women
- We are a diverse community: 34% of our 2021 traditional students identify as persons of color.
- 62% are from North Carolina, 31% are from 34 other states, and 7% are from 26 other countries: Australia, Austria, Bahamas, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Denmark, France, Ghana, Germany, India, Israel, Italy, Morocco, Mexico, Nigeria, Norway, Panama, Serbia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, Venezuela, and Zimbabwe
- 22% hail from Madison, Buncombe, or Yancey counties
- 39% are first-generation college students
- 99% receive financial aid
- 57% participate in athletics
- The average high school GPA for new students is 3.5.
