Local Lion Promise
A meaningful tuition scholarship for local students
Whether you have lived in this area your entire life and have been to the Mars Hill campus many times, or you just want to see all we have to offer, please know that we extend an extra warm welcome for our local students. So warm, that we have made a promise to keep tuition affordable for those in our community. Living near home has its benefits. Maybe it’s the opportunity to keep up with high school friends, a possibility of a nice homecooked meal once and a while, or you just want to stay where your roots are planted and give back in your own community… whatever it may be, attending this beautiful school in the mountains has plenty of perks!
MHU’s commitment to area students runs deep. The Local Lion Promise scholarship guarantees a minimum of a 50 percent discount on tuition to traditional undergraduate students who live or attend high school in the counties closest to the MHU campus. Many students may receive even more funding through grants and scholarships.

Get your degree while staying closer to home! The following western North Carolina counties have been recognized as being closest to Mars Hill University’s campus, and students receive a minimum 50 percent discount on tuition.

October 25: Join us for a day filled with information especially for our families from the surrounding counties.
At Local Lion Visit Day you can meet faculty, talk with current students, tour campus, enjoy a fun cookout, attend a home football game or take part in an esports showcase!
