Mars Hill University announces the hiring of Roger Slagle, MBA, CPA, as its new vice president for finance and administration. Slagle is no stranger to the university, having served as an adjunct professor of business administration since 2003. He begins his new role on February 15, 2021.
Slagle has over 20 years of industry experience, working for numerous large corporations. He most recently worked for Hiab USA as the company’s financial planning and analysis manager for North America, and before that as its business controller. Prior to Hiab, he was chief financial officer for Acme Lift Company. He previously served as corporate controller for Genova Diagnostics, and as director of finance for Volvo Construction Equipment Rents.
In his faculty role at Mars Hill, Slagle helped identify and develop new course content and programs within the business department, worked within the community for partnering opportunities for student advancement, supported the strategic planning process, and chaired the Department of Business Executive Advisory Board. He designed and implemented course plans for finance, budgeting, strategy, economics, and special elective courses in both the undergraduate and master’s programs.
Significant projects included organizing the department’s executive advisory board, supporting the department’s strategic planning dialogue, and developing the Professional Development Series of non-degree courses for individuals, entrepreneurs, managers, and non-profit organizations.
Slagle received his undergraduate degree in business administration and law from Western Carolina University, where he also earned dual master’s degrees in business administration and accountancy. He is completing his Ph.D. in Business Management with a specialization in finance from Capella University. Slagle is a Certified Public Accountant in North Carolina and a Chartered Global Management Accountant.
He serves on the advisory boards of the Mars Hill University Department of Business and the Western Carolina University Master of Accountancy Program, as well as the board of directors of OnTrack Financial Education and Counseling in Asheville. He holds membership in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Institute of Management Accountants, the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants, and the National Society of Leadership and Success.
