June 25 message to students regarding the fall schedule

Dear students,

At this point you have received preliminary information regarding the change in the way your course schedule will work this fall. As you have heard, we will be implementing a new structure for the way classes meet in 2020-’21 to help ensure the safety of everyone on campus as we continue to navigate the situation with the global pandemic.

All schedules will necessarily change under this new structure. Your advisors will reach out to you in the coming weeks to give you specifics on how to schedule a time to meet (virtually) with them to make any needed schedule adjustments. The Advising/Registration Adjustment period will open on August 3rd for seniors, August 4th for juniors, and August 5th for sophomores. Incoming first-year students will have their schedules adjusted by the Advising Committee by August 10th.

After your courses are adjusted, you will have an additional chance to work with your advisor on August 17, prior to the first day of class on the 18th. And, as usual, there will be a drop-add period in the first week of classes.

As a reminder: the fall semester for traditional students will begin a week earlier than planned, on August 18.  Each semester will be divided into two 7-week blocks.

Fall First Block: August 18 — October 5
Fall Second Block: October 6 — November 23

Online J-term: January 6 – January 26
Spring First Block: February 2 — March 19
Spring Second Block: March 22 — May 7

Most courses will meet Mon/Wed/Fri or Tue/Thurs in one of the two blocks. Some courses will span across both blocks, either face-to-face or in an online format (FYS111 sections, primarily). Your current fall schedules are being rearranged to fit your courses into this block format.

If you have any questions, please email your academic advisor or advising@mhu.edu.

Enjoy the remainder of your summer. We look forward to seeing you soon on the Hill!
