Dr. Kelly Moore Spencer is an Assistant Professor at Mars Hill University, teaching in the Art Therapy, Psychology and Women’s and Gender Studies Programs. She is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor and a Board Certified Registered Art Therapist. Dr. Spencer practiced as a clinician for several years before she began teaching at Mars Hill University in 2016. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Education from The University of Georgia, her Master’s in Art Therapy from Florida State University and her Doctorate in Counseling and Counselor Education from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Dr. Spencer’s research interests include gaining an understanding of the psychological impact of stigma on intersecting and marginalized identities. She is also interested in exploring how we can heal both individually and collectively through art and creativity. At MHU, Dr. Spencer teaches courses such as Introduction to Art Therapy, Art Therapy Applications, General Psychology, Social Psychology, and The Psychology of Gender and Sexuality.
