Cathy Adkins is a retired professor of music and executive director of general studies at Mars Hill University. She continues to serve the university as university organist and choral accompanist.

She received a B.M. in Organ Performance from UNC-Greensboro and the M.M. in Organ Performance from The University of Michigan. Additionally, Ms. Adkins has completed all course work for the D.M.A. in Organ Performance at The University of Michigan and the Ph.D. in Music Education at UNC-Greensboro.

Professor Adkins taught courses in music history and general studies. She was deeply committed to and involved in general studies at MHU for many years, with a special focus on learner-centered teaching, interdisciplinary course content, and integration of the arts. She has taught courses centered on ethics, creativity, civic life, and faith and reason, and regularly made presentations on the interpretation of music and art as “texts” that stand alongside written texts as expressions of human experience, thought and culture.
