Sheila Metcalf – Assistant Director of Medical Services
The Mars Hill University Student Health Center, located in Nash, is the health facility for the campus community. The Student Health Center staff provides primary care for full-time students. The Student Health Center is part of the student development office and works closely with this office in order to assist in each student’s physical and emotional development during his/her college experience.
A physician, physician’s assistant, or nurse practitioner associated with the Hot Springs Health Program assesses sick and injured students at the center on Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Students should call 828-689-1383 or 828-689-1243 to set up an appointment to see the physician. Physician services at the Student Health Center are at no additional cost to the student. This service is only offered to full-time, day students.
Students who need medical assistance outside these posted hours are strongly encouraged to seek the nurses’ care at the Student Health Center and may be treated according to physician standing orders. The nurse may opt to schedule an appointment at the Mars Hill Medical Center (closest office to campus that is part of the Hot Spring Health Program) for physician assessment. The student or his/her parent will be billed for any unpaid balance.
The Student Health Center is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for students. The university accepts responsibility to uphold and enforce North Carolina Public Health Law and considers recommendations from the American College Health Association and U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The university’s health forms provide medical staff with the necessary information we need to assure that we are providing a safe and healthy campus community. New students are required to complete the medical history form and submit no later than August 1, for Fall enrollment and January 1, for spring enrollment.
Students cannot move into the residence halls until all forms are submitted and cleared by Medical Services.
The Student Health Center is deeply committed to caring for our students. During the COVID-19 Pandemic, we will continue to offer services to our campus community, although we will operate with some modifications.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, before arrival at the Student Health Center (SHC), we ask that you please call 828-689-1383 or 828-689-1243 and speak to a nurse for screening.
The nurse will gather additional information and give you an appointment time. Please do not come to the Health Center unless you have a scheduled appointment.
