In consultation with the Mars Hill Police Department, the Mars Hill Fire Department, Madison County officials, and regional Emergency Operations, classes at the University are suspended through Friday, October 4. Offices will remain closed until further notice.
Local and state officials continue to advise that travel in the region should be restricted to essential and emergency travel. Therefore, employees should not travel to campus unless requested to do so and officials encourage students to stay on campus.
Power has been restored to most of campus and much of the town of Mars Hill. Cellular and internet access are intermittently available.
Residence halls and dining services remain operational. Brunch will be served daily at Pittman Dining Hall from 10-1130am, and dinner will be served 5-6pm.
Resident Assistants are conducting daily room checks, dining services is checking in students at meals, and coaches are checking their rosters, each on a daily basis. If residential students elect to leave campus, they are urged to inform Residence Life. The office of Residence Life can be reached at residence-life@mhu.edu to request a check for a specific student.
The University will issue its next update on Monday, September 30.
