Campus Security Officer: Part-Time

Department:     Campus Security Department
Supervisor:      Director of Safety & Security
Work Area:        All property owned or leased by University

This is a continuous recruitment to create a pool of applicants.  Openings may or may not exist at this time.  Applications are evaluated on an as-needed basis to fill a vacancy.  This post will remain open for 12 months.

General Description:

Performs routine duties of Security Officer and other activities under the direction of the Director of Security.


  • Routine patrol.
  • Answering all calls for service in order of priority and in a timely manner.
  • Walking thru each building at least twice per shift, with the exception of dorms being a minimum of three times per shift.
  • Running airport trips.
  • Escorting students to doctors, etc.
  • Issuing parking violations.
  • Crowd control and parking for special events.
  • Handling calls for assistance.
  • Opening and closing of buildings.
  • Keeping office area and patrol vehicle clean.
  • Investigating incidents that happen on campus.
  • Taking bank deposit.
  • Picking up mail.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Director of Safety and Security.
  • Perform fire safety inspections.
  • Keep daily logs with detailed dispositions of actions as mandated by Federal regulations in compliance with the Clery Act.


  • Economical use of supplies, care and use of equipment.
  • Quality of work performed.
  • Keeping up with work demand.
  • Cooperating with other employees to promote efficiency and morale of department.
  • Work closely with Local Law Enforcement Agencies.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Good physical and mental health.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions, either written or oral.
  • Must have initiative and good judgment.
  • Must be neat in appearance at all times.
  • Present an up-to-date physical examination showing to be in good health and physical condition.
