Assistant/Associate Professor of Nursing- Simulation/ Lab/ Clinical Coordinator

In support of Mars Hill University and the Judge-McRae School of Nursing and Health Sciences, the Simulation/Lab/Clinical Coordinator will provide instruction to nursing students in the classroom, simulation, and laboratory settings based on a curriculum which provides career mobility opportunities for individuals who desire educational preparation in nursing. The coordinator will demonstrate enthusiasm for and commitment to undergraduate and post-graduate education.

1. Master’s degree in Nursing from an accredited institution, required
2. Preparation in teaching and learning principles for adult education prior to or within the first three years of employment (NCBON Standard 21 NCAC 36.0318), required
3. Two years full-time clinical employment as a registered nurse (NCBON Standard 21 NCAC 36.0318), required
4. Teaching experience, preferred
5. Simulation experience, preferred

Education (if the Master’s Degree in Nursing is not in education) – demonstration of one of the following:
A. Completion of 45 contact hours of continuing education courses;
B. Completion of a certificate program in nursing education;
C. Nine semester hours of education; or
D. Documentation of successful completion of structured, individualized development activities of at least 45 contact hours approved by the North Carolina Board of Nursing as defined in the 21 NCAC 36.0318.

Licensure/Certification – unrestricted license to practice as Registered Nurse in North Carolina
1. Hold an active unencumbered license or multistate licensure privilege to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina (NCBON Standard 21 NCAC 36.0318), required
2. Certification in simulation, preferred
3. BLS Certification, required

Experience – minimum of 3 years practice as a Registered Nurse with clinical expertise relevant to teaching area; certification in area specialty highly desirable; teaching at collegiate level; simulation/lab/clinical coordination; collaboration with educational and/or clinical agencies
Other – health and training requirements for the position as stipulated by clinical agencies, including but not limited to immunizations, titers, and CPR certification; excellent interpersonal, written and oral presentations skills; proven educational or administrative experience in critical thinking, problem solving and judgment skills, and varied course delivery methodologies; proficient in Microsoft Office, the Internet, and Moodle or BlackBoard.
Nurse faculty members shall have the authority and responsibility for: (1) student admission, progression, and graduation requirements; and (2) the development, implementation, and evaluation of the curriculum.

Duties include providing quality instruction to students by ensuring achievement of program outcomes and student learning in the Classroom, Nursing Skills/Simulation Lab, and Clinical environments through collaboration with Director, nursing faculty, campus faculty, students, clinical partners, and vendors as applies to coordinator position in the developing programs, as well as supervising related undergraduate student research. Duties also include student advising, participating in student recruitment, and contributing to the development of curricula and programs. Other responsibilities include completing professional development and in-service activities in accordance with standards set by the university, approval bodies, and accrediting bodies; maintaining expertise in subject areas; actively participating in School of Nursing and university faculty meetings; actively participating in core course academic support programs and student professional associations; maintaining records of student work, requirements, benchmarks, and overall progress.

Simulation/Lab/Clinical Coordinator Essential Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following
1. Maintain current knowledge of nursing practice for the registered nurse and the licensed practical nurse (NCBON Standard 21 NCAC 36.0318)
2. Serve as the lead person in simulation and clinical instruction
3. Serve as a liaison with clinical partners and vendors relating to simulation and clinical
4. Maintain competency in simulation/lab equipment
5. Supervise and train nursing faculty, staff and students in operational aspects of the simulation lab
6. Maintain accurate, complete and timely records of student participation for all simulation/clinical/lab activities
7. Work with the Administrative Assistant to conduct clinical and simulation evaluations from students, as well as clinical evaluations from clinical agencies
8. Provide quality instruction in the classroom
9. Participate in curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation
10. Participate in student admission, progression, and graduation requirements
11. Participate in the academic advising, counseling, registration, and orientation of students
12. Collaborate with other professionals in dealing with students needing special assistance
13. Evaluate student performance of specified skills, theory, and principles
14. Submit requests for supplies and equipment to the Administrative Assistant and Director
15. Promote effective communication and working relationships with personnel of community and clinical agencies
16. Collaborate with faculty to meet course and clinical objectives in the simulation lab
17. Develop clinical and simulation schedules for all nursing students
18. Attend program and faculty meetings as scheduled
19. Serve as a liaison with other University departments and community partners
20. Serve on appropriate program and University committees
21. Maintain active membership with a simulation council/committee association
22. Maintain expertise in simulation and/or subject areas for teaching
23. Perform other activities as designated by the Program Director and Division Dean
24. Perform expectations of a faculty member as stated in the MHU Faculty handbook and the JMSON Faculty Handbook.

Physical Demands:
Typical classroom, clinical, and/or laboratory environment; frequently lifting and carrying items up to 25 lbs.; frequently traveling between buildings on campus or to other campuses or clinical sites; frequently standing for extended periods in classroom, clinical, and/or laboratory settings; frequently twisting or bending at the waist or reaching overhead; frequently listening to and talking with students, faculty, and other staff members; frequently sitting at a desk or workstation using a computer display, keyboard, mouse, and telephone; frequently long hours

Environmental Conditions:
Mostly indoors; selective activities will necessitate driving a car to other facilities
