Shelia L. Metcalf MLT (ASCP)cm started to work for Mars Hill University in October of 2021 as Laboratory Director and Assistant Director of Medical Services. Until she started work at the University she worked in public health as Laboratory Manager, Preparedness Coordinator, Safety and Security Officer, Respiratory Fit Testing Instructor, staff education trainer and Covid-19 tester. Shelia brings over sixteen years’ experience in the field of Medical Laboratory Technology to the University along with knowledge of the various other jobs.
In 2015 she was recognized by the North Carolina Public Health Association for her dedicated efforts in response to the Ebola crisis.
Shelia graduated with honors from A-B Tech with an Associate’s Degree of Applied Science and received her certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists Board of Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician.
Shelia, her husband and daughter are Madison County natives living on the Tennessee border. Shelia refers to it as the North Pole and says winter is not her friend. She also has a son, daughter-in-law and several family members living in Madison County that are also natives.
Shelia loves spending time with her children and the summer months. She enjoys camping, going to the beach, reading a good book and watching a good movie. One day she hopes to travel places she has not been and go on a cruise.
