DESCRIPTION:77th J. Elwood Roberts Mars Hill University Choral Festival is Friday and Saturday\, February 6 and 7\, 2026. Guest clinician/conductor is Dr. Edith A. Copley\, a regents’ professor emerita at Northern Arizona University.  The closing concert is Saturday at 3 p.m. in Moore Auditorium and is free and open to the public. \nThe J. Elwood Roberts – Mars Hill University Choral Festival was established in 1949 by the late J. Elwood Roberts as an effort to improve choral music in the high schools of western North Carolina. While in the beginning the “clinic” was comprised of about fifteen schools in the closely-surrounding area\, this annual event has grown into one of the premiere choral festivals in North Carolina and\, prior to COVID\, was the longest\, continuously-running festival of its type in the southeast. Each year over 800 students from approximately 100 high schools audition for the Festival Choir.

DESCRIPTION:Day4MHU began in 2015 as an effort to engage alumni and other supporters to participate financially in the university’s mission. Alumni and friends of the institution are encouraged to wear MHU apparel and post to their social media feeds to participate in the global Day4MHU drive. The yearly effort has seen consistent growth in participation and in dollars raised. \nMost contributions to Day4MHU support the Mars Hill Scholarship Fund\, the university’s central fund for scholarships. Donors to Day4MHU also are able to designate their gifts to specific needs or programs\, if they prefer to make a more targeted donation.

SUMMARY:Blue Ridge Old-Time Music Week
DESCRIPTION:The week-long camp will be held June 7–13\, 2026. Blue Ridge Old Time Music Week offers beginning\, intermediate and advanced lessons in most acoustical instruments\, including guitar\, fiddle\, banjo\, bass\, dulcimer and mandolin\, as well as instruction in harmony singing and watercolor arts. It provides a nurturing and safe environment for students of all ages to learn from master old-time musicians. \nThe camp offers both residential and commuter options. In addition to intensive morning classes\, attendees also may elect to participate in afternoon mini classes ranging from flatfooting to shape note singing. Participants are encouraged to join in impromptu jam sessions throughout the week and to experience the mastery of the instructors performing nightly concerts.
