Original documents pertaining to women’s suffrage from the State Archives of North Carolina will be on display for one day in Mars Hill University’s Liston B. Ramsey Center for Appalachian Studies, located in Renfro Library. A team from the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, including State Archivist Sarah Koonts, will accompany the documents. Interpretive panels and hands-on activities such as crafts and voter registration will complement the display of items from the State Archives vault.
Groups from Madison and Buncombe County schools will fill the morning and afternoon hours, but at 3:30 p.m. the Ramsey Center will open to the Mars Hill University community and the public for viewing of the documents and an accompanying exhibit. At 6 p.m. an evening program will take place with brief talks and further opportunity to view the items from the State Archives and look at the accompanying exhibit panels. The talks are:
