Presidential Lecture & Performance Series
Jessica Bandel of the N.C. Office of Archives and History, author of “North Carolina and the Great War, 1914-1918” will present on March 22, at Mars Hill University
The presentation will cover various aspects of North Carolina’s experience during the Great War, from early volunteerism to home front issues and contributions to the experiences of doughboys on the battlefields. Red Cross, Student Army Training Corps, women’s military service, the influenza epidemic, general hospitals, and military installations are just some of the items discussed.
Jessica Bandel has been a research historian with the North Carolina Archives and History Office, a subdivision of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, for four years. During her tenure, she has authored or coauthored three books and has curated a number of traveling and stationary exhibits on different aspects of North Carolina’s history. She earned her Master of Arts degree in Historic Preservation from Middle Tennessee State University in 2012.
