This year, we’ll be kicking off the annual Lunsford Festival with a ballad swap on Friday evening. The event will be MC’d by eighth-generation ballad-singer Donna Ray Norton and will feature the region’s best ballad-singers, many of whom are descended from the Madison County families from whom Cecil Sharp collected in 1916. Madison County is known worldwide for its living ballad-singing tradition, and this is an opportunity to experience the tradition firsthand.
The event is free and will take place in Moore Auditorium on the MHU campus. First Friday will be happening at the same time, so it will be a great evening in Mars Hill! Please be sure to join us on Saturday, too, for a full day of music!
