The RN-to-B.S.N. Program is not accepting applications at this time.  The program is expected to resume in Spring 2021.

R.N. to B.S.N. Program

The R.N. to B.S.N. program provides an opportunity for registered nurses (R.N.s) with a diploma or associate degree in nursing to earn the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) degree. Of the 128 semester hours of credit (shc) required, 64 shc are in nursing (NUR) courses and 64 shc are in non-nursing courses. The Mars Hill University R.N. to B.S.N. program is offered at the Adult and Graduate Studies Asheville site at 303B Airport Road, Arden, and is the only seated (classroom) R.N. to B.S.N. program in the western North Carolina region. The NUR courses are delivered in a semi-online method with a class session once each week from 4:30 – 9:30 pm.

Credit for previous nursing coursework = 31 shc
Required nursing credit hours within the R.N. to B.S.N. Program = 33 shc

Required Non-nursing credit hours = 64 shc

The B.S.N. programs at Mars Hill University equip students with the knowledge, skills, and professional dispositions to provide innovative health care across the lifespan through the roles of provider of care, designer of care, member of the profession, and member of the interdisciplinary team. Students will experience an education that:

Sharpens critical thinking and clinical judgment
Enhances healthy promotion and cultural sensitivity perspectives
Insists upon effective, interactive, and interdisciplinary communication
Engages with the community

Program Student Learning Outcomes:

  1. Students will apply components of health promotion theory and pertinent nursing theories across the lifespan, cultures, and communities in discussing a culture.
  2. Students will demonstrate the importance of scientific inquiry and its role in grounding nursing in evidence-based practice.
  3. Students will participate in interdisciplinary care for enhancement of patient outcomes.
  4. Student will apply ethics, moral character, altruism, and social justice in the nursing profession.
  5. Students will evaluate the role of gender, race/ethnicity, genomics/genetics, and environment on health promotion and disease prevention.
  6. Students will synthesize best practices in research, leadership, quality improvement, and patient safety into own professional practice.
  7. Students will communicate effectively through a variety of methods, technologies, and informatics platforms.
  8. Students will cultivate relationships with communities across various healthcare environments.
  9. Students will apply policy, finance, and regulatory environments to healthcare delivery.
  10. Students will synthesize advanced knowledge, self-discovery, team dynamics, and experience acquired through the RN to BSN program.

Judge-McRae School of Nursing Requirements for the R.N. to B.S.N. Program:

GPA 2.5 (on a 4.0 point scale) with fewer than 3 years experience OR 2.4 (on a 4.0 point scale) with 3+ years experience
Transcripts from all previous institutions
Current, unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina
Completed Medical Form
Current Immunizations
Current CPR Card
Liability Insurance (obtained through Mars Hill University)
Clean Criminal Background Check for all states of residence for past 7 years
