Mars Hill University Founders Week


October 12 – 14, 2014

Theme: African American and Native American Ethnic Heritage of Mars Hill University

Each year during Founders Week, MHU honors particular presidents, founding families, and founding churches, and calls attention to their respective roles in the founding and early years of Mars Hill College.

This year's honorees are:

College Presidents

  • William Albert Gallatin Brown, 1856-58
  • Robert Lee Moore, 1897 – 1938

Founding Families

  • Pinkney and Nancy Radford Anderson
  • Joseph Anderson and Jane Ray
  • Jesse Woodson and Elizabeth Caroline Carter Anderson

Founding Churches

  • Mars Hill Baptist Church
  • California Creek Baptist Church
  • Upper Laurel Baptist Church
  • Mount Olive Baptist Church
