Mars Hill University Students Receive Scholarships

Sss Scholarships 2014Three Mars Hill University students were honored recently for having received the Student Support Services Program Scholarship for the 2013-14 academic year. They were (l-r): Jessica Viscusi, a junior chemistry major from Bryson City, NC;  Ashley Spears, a senior history major from Lenoir, NC; and Destiny Hewett, a sophomore art major from Sneads Ferry, NC.

The students were recognized for having received the scholarships at the Student Support Services spring awards and recognition banquet on April 22.

The scholarships are funded by the university as part of its institutional commitment to the Student Support Services program. They provide $1,000 to a program junior or senior, and $500 each to two students in the program who have completed a minimum of 28 semester hours.

The Student Support Services program serves college students who may meet any or all of the criteria: they are first generation college students, come from moderate-income homes, and/or have a documented disability. To be considered for these scholarships, students must meet the scholarship criteria set by the program and complete an application. In addition, the $1,000 scholarship requires at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA, and the $500 scholarships require at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA.
