Clark Charitable Trust grants MHU Music Department $5,000

The Mars Hill University Music Department has received a $5,000 grant from Clark Charitable Trust of Lincoln, MA. The grant monies will be used for new instruments for students in the music programs at MHU.

The grant will compliment an earlier $5,000 grant, also for instruments, from the Stonecutter Foundation of Spindale, NC.

According to the grant proposals, the new instruments to be purchased will be used in methods classes. In these classes, students learn to play instruments which are not their primary instruments of choice, in preparation for teaching music in N.C. public schools.

Stacy Sparks, Director of Foundation Relations at MHU said, "The instruments requested would be owned by Mars Hill University Department of Music and would serve our students for many years into the future, preparing them to teach in the public schools, thereby serving their future students as well."

Mars Hill University’s Department of Music has a tremendous reputation for producing skilled musicians and teachers of music. The department provides an environment in which musicians continue to develop their skills, knowledge, concepts and sensitivities essential to recognizing, cultivating and performing quality music.
