Celebrating Retirees and Long Serving Employees

Retiring faculty and staff who, collectively, devoted more than 330 work years to Mars Hill University, were honored at the annual faculty-staff appreciation luncheon on May 4, 2016. Retirees for the 2015-16 academic year are (left to right in the photo):

  • Sarah Butrum, Associate Professor of Mathematics & Director of the Math Center, 22 years
  • Gerald Ball, Director of Information Technology, 39 years
  • Ken Gregory, Assistant Professor of Art & Department Chair, 11+ years over two separate appointments
  • Wanda Phillips, Administrative Assistant: Information Technology, 31 years
  • Phillip Carroll, Facilities, 8 years
  • Ted Berzinski, Associate Professor of Business, 16 years
  • Julie Fortney, Professor of Music, 43 years

Not pictured:

  • Vernon Carver, 51 years of service
  • Fran Horton, Fine Arts and Professional Programs Administrator, 16 years;
  • Peggy Harmon, Special Collections Supervisor, who retired last September after 33 years of service, and passed away in March

The university also honored employees who have reached milestone years of service (starting with 25 years, in five-year increments). This year's honorees are (left to right):
