Master of Education

This degree has a concentration in Elementary Education (K-6).

Components of each course in the M.Ed. program ensure candidates are prepared for the ever-changing landscape of public education. The program emphasizes student achievement through development of research based competencies in teaching literacy, the Common Core, and 21st Century skills. Additionally, completion of the program will facilitate attainment of the revised 2014 National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) certification for candidates that choose to participate.

Prospective students: Education graduates who hold a teaching license and practicing teachers who wish to add the Master’s degree to their credentials are potential candidates for the program. The program is designed to expand professional knowledge and skills in curriculum and instruction at the elementary level.

Complete your degree in only five semesters:
The MHU program consists of twelve 3-credit hour courses. The Master of Education program includes professional studies courses, specialty courses, research courses, and a course in which students complete their culminating project. All students will complete a research project under the guidance of a faculty advisor. This inquiry project will address some aspect of education, approved by the advisor, and will be presented publicly at the end of the program. In order to complete the project, all students must successfully complete the inquiry project and presentation.

Faculty connected with local schools: Our faculty is in your school system regularly. Our professors help train teachers to implement Common Core Standards, Inclusion, Response to Instruction, Diversity, and Curriculum Based Assessment. Each class also focuses on strategies for teaching struggling learners.

Affordability: We offer financial aid for teaching professionals. You will be assigned your own financial aid counselor to help you through the process.
